Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) is a nationwide collaboration of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer by working to implement the programs and mission of the American Cancer Society.

With hundreds of chapters nationwide, CAC is showing the world that young people care and want to make a difference.

We also are supporting Cancer for College because they area a wonderful organization that gives college scholarships to cancer survivors with money raised from donations.

The organization got off to a small start in 1993 (raising only $500) but has since raised nearly 2 million dollars and provided scholarships to over 1,000 cancer survivors.

    Relay For Life

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities and campuses around the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local campus, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path.

Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event.

Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.

Many students decide to become involved with CAC because of prior involvement with Relay For Life in their hometowns.

It’s a great way to stay involved with the Society when you go away to college!

Chapters are encouraged to host their own Relays if possible, or to put together a team at a local Relay if one isn’t possible on campus.

Here are some other great Relay For Life-oriented events held by CAC chapters:

    • Hosting a multi-college Relay (great if there are multiple colleges in an area)
    • Participating in Paint the Campus Purple
    • Fundraising for a local Relay on campus with a car wash
    • Mentoring a “rookie” Relay to help it get started

Cancer for College provides financial aid to cancer survivors in the form of college scholarships

The Cancer for College scholarship application will be available to submit from October 1st to January 31st.

    Winners are announced in July.

To submit an application during the consideration period:

Cancer for College (CFC) is a registered 501 (c) 3 recognized by the state of California.

It was founded in 1993 by Craig Pollard, a two-time survivor of Hodgkin’s disease.

During a stint as a counselor at Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, Craig quickly recognized that while there were many avenues to support cancer research, there were virtually none that were designed to help survivors of cancer.

In addition, he found that many families were financially wiped out by the medical costs associated with dealing with the disease.

In addition, in 2006, Craig contracted an aggressive bacterial infection that resulted in both his feet being amputated above the ankle.

Later that same year, he added amputees to the list of eligible scholarship applicants.

Cancer for College offers one-time scholarships in the amount of $500, $1,000, $1,500 and $3,000. We also offer our premier perpetual scholarship which equates to $4,000 a year for four years.

We hope that you will join us in our mission to provide hope and inspiration in the form of a college scholarship to these survivors who have endured so much.

Make a donation today of any amount.
Every dollar counts toward our dream!
